I've recently joined another angel group, Walnut Venture Associates. I'd been attending many of their meetings as a guest, really enjoyed working with the folks there on a couple of deals, and decided that I should ante up with them as well as Boston Harbor Angels.
Things have really picked up in the investing area from my point of view. This year I've been working with one company that appears to be putting together the largest deal I've seen to date in a single round: $1.5M. Admittedly, it's taking members of eight or so angel groups to raise that amount. Sadly, it looks like I'm not going to participate in the investment as they've set a limit that's too high for my diversification goals.
On the other hand, I did make a small investment in WebNotes, and they're doing good stuff, though they still have a long way to go. I've also got strong interest in several other deals, including a computer display security company, an outdoor fitness machine company, a video transcription service, an employee recruiting company, and maybe a couple of others that slip my mind right now.
I'm also advising a couple of other companies at various stages of development.
All in all, it's a pretty exciting time to be doing this stuff, I'm finding. Now, if any of these investments actually make money, I'll be really happy!
